My name is Devon Hope. I am very good at basketball but I am jealous of Tyrone. He is dumb and he still gets all the girls. I mean I attract girls but not the ones I want. I wish I could make up rhymes the way he did. Even though he is the gangster type of guy he still comes up with deep lyrics. I guess girls dig this type of things. We have "Open Mike Fridays" every week and he seems to be the star. Even though we have to write poems he still thinks he is the best with words.

My book is Bronx Masquerade. So Far It has shown me how people can doubt themselves and how others can still believe in themselves after everyone has given up on them. I Think the theme for this book is "No one can decide your fate but yourself.". This is the theme because there is one kid who wants to be a famous painter and everyone gave up on him but he keeps trying so he can achieve his dream. Another kid is doubted because he is black and he gives into it and decided to not try at school. He believes that he will become a loser in the streets like everyone has said.

Independent Reading Book

My independent reading book is Bronx Masquerade. The book has many stories about kids who are having trouble in their life. They all have their point of view of life and they show it in poetry.
This book doesn't really relate to anything else i have read because this shows how people feel inside and what they think they will and want to accomplish in the future.

My book is called "A Separate Piece" by John Knowles. Right now in my book it only shows memory of a guy ,who's name has not been given yet, when he was in middle school. He was very smart and athletic. He had many friends that were very outgoing and were ready to do anything. The only thing I can relate is my memories of my middle school memories. I was very smart in middle school and I really liked to run around and play sports. My friends were also very much like his friends. They were prepared for anything and were willing to have fun even though they might get in trouble.

Mitty Blake

Mitty Blake is a regular lazy boy who doesn't really care about school. He is told to make a report about an infectious disease of the past. He decides to write about smallpox. He finds that small pox was a pandemic in Asia. It killed 400,000 people of all age. I think that my character is very lazy but can get interested in some things. He might find something out that can put the whole worlds fate in his hands.

My Freshman Year

My favorite part from speak is when Melinda ditches School. This is my favorite part because it shows how people can change so quickly. Melinda was a very happy smart student but now she is very quiet and doesn't really care about school anymore. When she ditches she goes to a hospital and lays in the bed. Melinda was not sick physically but she was sick emotionally. this shows that you don't have to be bleeding or something to be hurt u can be hurt without any physical contact.

Connection To Reading

I think i connect to Bud Not Buddy because i am very curious and i love to be away from home. Bud traveled across the state and I like to travel to far cities. Bud also gets kicked out of many places. I get kicked out of places too because I skate where I'm not supposed to. I am different from Bud because he travels to find family and I travel to find fun. When Bud travels he always keeps his most valuable possession with him and when I travel I always have my skateboard with me. When bud was traveling he had a friend tagging along. I also have a friend with me when I go far. I Don't like going far alone unless I'm gonna meet someone.
